Usage of Social networking websites has increased at tremendous rate. Peoples are getting net savvy day by day. Every time a net savvy person needs something, he will try to find it online.

One of the biggest example of world beginning to get net savvy is, employers are reviewing candidate's social networking profile to decide whether to employ an individual or not. I am sure you must be having glimpse about this. But what you must not be knowing is that, a recently conducted survey by CareerBuilder.com has clearly showed that nearly  one out of two companies are involved in online due diligence for their prospective job candidates.

Total 2667 hiring managers and HR professionals participated in CarrerBuilder survey in June 2009. Out of them 45% of employers reported that they use social networking websites to research job candidates. It’s a big jump from 22 percent noted in last year.

Of those who conduct online searches / background checks of their prospective job candidates, 29 percent use Facebook, 26 percent use LinkedIn and 21 percent use MySpace. 11 percent search blogs while 7 percent follow candidates on Twitter.

But the most interesting fact is "35% of employers reported they have found content on social networking sites that caused them not to hire the candidate."

So in future, if you want to associate yourself with branded companies as an employee then it'll be mandatory for you to manage your online reputation in social networking websites.
