Google Analytics Filter to Track Ranking
There are tons of things/data which can be used to make the website more worthy and usable for users. But for that you’ll need to track your website user’s behavior.
Google Analytics is one of the best web analytics tool available in market and most important is that it’s free for everyone. It gives very beautiful basic analytics reports but when you things of taking it to advance level, there are certain limitations. Many of these limitations can be overcome by using Google Analytics filters.
For all SEO cum Web Analyst most important point is to track the SE ranking and visitor's behavior. Now with Google Analytics filter you can track your Google rankings and traffic you get from those keywords when they’re at specific position.
Well, with organic traffic you were unable to specifically track the exact position of the keyword that it was on when clicked, which you can do with Google Adwords. But now it is possible to determine the position and visits we got from specific keyword when it was on specific position in SERPs. Google Analytics filter can do the real ranking tracking for you. Just set up below shown filter in your Google Analytics account:
Note: If you don’t want your main profile to get screwed (incase), please make new profile for that specific website.
To make new profile:
- Click on “Add Website Profile” located on bottom left.
- Add new profile details
Now, lets start configuring filters:
- Click on "Edit" besides new profile or "Filter Manager" located at bottom right.
- Click "+ Add Filter" and configure below shown 4 filters.

Filter 4:
For efficiency, just Copy-Paste below in Field A, B & output in Filter 4:
Field A, campaign term: (.*)
Field B, referral: (\?|&)(start|b|first)=([^&]*)
Output, user defined: $A1 (page: $B3)
That’s it! You’re done. Now just wait for data to arrive, which takes around 24 hours in case of Google Analytics.
